Parental Rights
Divorcing parents involved in a custody dispute should have the right:
- To take care of their children financially and emotionally, regardless of who has custody.
- To guide, parent and spend time with their children.
- To maintain a civil relationship with each other as parents after the divorce.
- To not to feel guilty about the divorce.
- To shield children from parental warfare.
- To spare children the unpleasant details of the legal proceedings.
- To be treated fairly throughout the divorce process.
- To have the agreed upon visitation schedule honored consistently, without debate or interruption, by the custodial parent.
- To a fair and equitable division of property.
- To make important decisions about your child’s life in areas such as medical treatment and education.
